Sheet metal forming press

Sheet Metal Forming Press Sourcing is an independent sourcing partner for a sheet metal forming press used on buyer blanks for forming and deep-drawing. We help equipment buyers collect comparable factory quotations. We do not own a press hall, hold finished-machine inventory, or act as a brand-appointed reseller of any press OEM. Stamping presses and press brakes sit outside this RFQ unless you add them as a separate line. Share alloy, draw depth, quantity and destination to request factory quotes.

Replacement versus new installation

Existing process

If a press already sits in the cell, record forming area in millimetres, the maximum draw depth you actually run, and whether the current stroke is governed by punch force in kN or by fluid-cell chamber pressure in bar or psi. A published chamber-pressure maximum on a hydroforming leaflet is not interchangeable with a punch-force rating; mixing those units is a common RFQ error. Name the die shoe, blank holder and any cushion that must be reused. Throughput should be stated as acceptable formed parts per shift under named blank conditions, not ram speed alone.

Replacement is justified only when the new machine envelope, connection points and operator access can be checked against the existing pit, feeder and die-handling path. If those checks fail, treat the project as a new installation instead of forcing a drop-in frame.

Replacement versus new installation

Use this band to decide whether a new sheet metal forming press must match an existing cell or can be planned as a greenfield pad. Buyer and supplier responsibilities stay split: you own blanks, drawings and destination; the equipment maker confirms feasibility for that duty; this desk coordinates quote comparison, not plant operation.

Existing process

Write down the alloy and temper, blank thickness, finished drawing revision and the draw depth that defines the forming trial. If you currently run a conventional punch-and-die route, do not copy a fluid-cell chamber-pressure table onto that brief. If you currently run a fluid-cell tray, do not treat a punch-force kN figure as proof that the same part will form. See why chamber pressure and punch force stay separate.

A replacement RFQ should list which dies, blank holders and cushions the buyer will keep, and which items the quoted press must include. Silent reuse of old tools is not a comparable assumption.

How product families change the sheet metal forming press brief

What changes between products?

List blank sizes, alloys and draw depths that must share the same press. Note which families need a dedicated die and blank holder versus a program-only change. Deep-drawn cups and shallow formed panels are not the same trial even when they share a steel grade. Stamping-press progressive dies and press-brake bending remain out of this site’s equipment family.

What must be cleaned or replaced?

Name the punch, die, blank-holder inserts, draw beads and any fluid-cell tray or bladder that swap when thickness or draw depth changes. Empty-ram demonstrations do not prove those change parts exist in the quoted package. Expendable seals, filters and wear plates should appear as spare-parts lines.

How is the first good output verified?

Return to the first production-intent blank after a second family is run. Inspect wrinkles, thinning and springback against the drawing revision. FAT and SAT language should use the same alloy, temper and draw depth you will later run, not a sample that is easier to form.

Which procurement scope is covered by sheet metal forming press?

What draw depth and sheet material define the forming trial?

Base machine

  • Press frame, hydraulic pack or fluid-cell unit, controls and the forming area stated in millimetres for the largest blank you named.
  • Standard tooling only when the quote lists the die, punch and blank holder for that trial; otherwise treat tools as a separate development line.
Which responsibilities remain with the equipment supplier and buyer?

The buyer supplies drawings, production-intent blanks, quantity, destination and acceptance language. The equipment supplier confirms how force is controlled through the required forming stroke, which die and blank-holding components are included, and what the FAT sample will prove. Sheet Metal Forming Press Sourcing compares those answers; we do not certify parts or sign plant acceptance. Tooling ownership is covered in tooling and development responsibilities.
